Week 6: Midterm Demo
Symbolism Cards
Scripts: Act1 & 2
Darkness. Flickering lights buzz faintly. A metallic scent lingers in the air.
Animation 01:
- The protagonist blinks slowly, her vision hazy.
- A towering, statue-like figure hovers over her.
- Cold fingers pry open her mouth.
- A flash of silver—a tool glints under the dim light.
- A tooth is pulled. Blood drips.
- A warm, metallic taste floods her tongue before everything fades to black again.
Gameplay Start:
- The protagonist gasps awake. [Sound cue: heavy breathing, body shifting]
- She lifts her hand—shaky, weak.
- A cracked mirror is placed in her palm.
- As she looks into it, her reflection reveals a horrifying sight—no teeth, only raw, empty gums.
Environment 01.1 – The First Realization
- The room is sterile yet unsettling—cold steel, faint surgical light, trays of extracted teeth.
- Across from her, a white figure sits behind a table, still and silent, as if waiting.
- Something gleams in its hand.
Dialogue 01-01
(The protagonist steadies herself, voice unsteady.)
Protagonist (internal monologue): Oh my… are those my teeth?
(The figure doesn’t respond. It slowly tilts its head, the teeth clinking softly in its grasp.)
(The protagonist hesitates but steps forward—toward the thing that took her teeth.)
SCENE 02 – The Hall of Mirrors
A vast, dimly lit corridor stretches endlessly. Tall, ornate mirrors line both sides, reflecting the protagonist from every angle. But the reflections don’t match—some show her younger, some older, some with teeth, some without. The air is thick with silence, except for the slow, hypnotic movements of golden fish floating weightlessly through the space, their tails flicking through the air like ripples in water.
Narrative Progression:
- The protagonist walks forward, disoriented by the shifting reflections.
- As she moves, some mirrors distort—faces melting, teeth warping, some mirrors even showing a toothless void where her mouth should be.
- A presence appears behind her.
Dialogue 02-01 – Meeting the Tooth Fairy
(A soft giggle echoes. The protagonist spins around—standing before her is the Tooth Fairy. Unlike a delicate, benevolent figure, this one is slightly uncanny—graceful but unnatural, with an unsettlingly perfect set of teeth.)
Tooth Fairy: “Lost, are we?”
(The protagonist clenches her fists, still overwhelmed by confusion.)
Protagonist: "Who did this? Who stole my teeth?"
(The Tooth Fairy tilts their head, their sharp smile never fading.)
Tooth Fairy: “Stole? Oh no, no one steals here. Here, when a tooth is taken, something else is lost with it.”
(They glide closer, gently tapping on one of the mirrors. The surface ripples like water, showing a flash of an unfamiliar memory—the protagonist, sitting in darkness, whispering words she can’t quite hear.)
Protagonist: “What… are you saying?”
Tooth Fairy: “That losing teeth means losing memories. Quite the trade, wouldn’t you say?”
(The protagonist stares in horror at her reflection—a mouth empty, a mind full of gaps. She steps back, shaking her head.)
Protagonist: “No… I don’t believe you.”
(The Tooth Fairy chuckles, a knowing sound.)
Tooth Fairy: “Believe what you like, toothless one.” (They press a single finger to their lips—"shh.") “But I don’t have time for those without teeth.”
(They gesture toward the endless hallway of mirrors.)
Tooth Fairy: “If you want answers, earn them. Get through the Hall of Mirrors, and I’ll give you back your first tooth.”
(The protagonist hesitates, then steels herself. The mirrors shimmer, their surfaces shifting. The golden fish dart away, as if sensing what’s about to come.)
Tooth Fairy (smiling): “Let’s see if you can still face yourself.”
Gameplay / Hall of Mirrors Challenge:
- The protagonist must navigate the maze-like corridor, where her reflections distort, taunt, or block her path.
- Some mirrors show lost memories, tempting her to stay and watch instead of moving forward.
- Others warp her form, making her doubt what is real.
- The goldfish, once serene, become erratic, darting unpredictably—symbols of fragmented memory trying to escape.
- At the final mirror, she sees something new—a version of herself, holding a single, bloodstained tooth.
(Reaching out, she claims it. A sharp pain shoots through her gums—her first tooth has been restored.)
